Great experience! The elephants were the highlight. We were surrounded by 20-25 of them for about 20 minutes, mesmerized by the playful activity of the baby elephants and the others who were guarding and eating. We saw lions, zebra, giraffes, leopards, among others. Such a delightful experience!
2nd visit & it was hotter than before. Really hot. But we were lucky enough to view the lions this time.🤍 It was really exciting to see Mufasa close by. Lots of other animals to view also...😊 Yk the Samburu special 5? Grevy's zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. That's where you'll find them. And on your way there, you get to see & interact with the Samburu people. Really interesting culture. And the ornaments too...loved them.❤️ Recommendations- carry your water, snacks, be sure to stay hydrated.
If you want a safari that feels a bit more "untamed" and off the beaten path than the popular southern parks, Samburu is an absolute must. The semi-arid landscape is stunning—the red earth and rocky hills create a dramatic backdrop, especially when contrasted with the lush green palm trees along the Ewaso Ng'iro River. The "Samburu Special Five": This is the main draw. You can see rare species here that you won't find in the Maasai Mara or Amboseli, specifically the Reticulated Giraffe (stunning patterns!), Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, the blue-necked Somali Ostrich, and my personal favorite, the Gerenuk (the "giraffe-gazelle" that stands on its hind legs to eat). We had incredible luck with leopards here. They love the trees along the riverbanks, so keep your eyes peeled for a tail hanging from an acacia branch.
